Description of activity
CD6 is a research centre operating in the field of photonics engineering, its research focused on Optical Metrology, Visual Biophotonics, Optical Design and Simulation, and Color and Spectral Technologies. Research activities aimed at creating value through innovation and entrepreneurship, have led to licensing 49 patents to the industry and the creation of 10 start-ups that manufacture and market new photonics-based products in different sectors

A 40 people team with complementary expertise (Optics & Photonics, Electronics, Mechanical and Software) work at CD6. This multidisciplinary combination helps developing fully-operative prototypes and applications with a short time-to-market.
The portfolio of technologies currently managed by CD6 includes the following:

- Energy-effcient illumination systems
- Optical techniques for non-destructive testing (NDT)
- Spectral and Color Technologies
CD6 provides R+D and innovation support to companies worldwide and from wide range of industry sectors as, in example, automotive, consumer electronics and multimedia, biomedical instrumentation and institutions or research centers, among others.
CD6 has participated in a number of EU-related projects and initiatives, always in coordination with SMEs. The most relevant have been in transport (NICOLAU, CRAFT programme, 2005), or in the biomedical field (Diagnoptics, CIP-PSP program, 2016, coordinator), COST Action BM1205 (2014, co-chair) and in the H2020 CSA Europho21 Project Id 643995. UPC-CD6 is currently participating in the following H2020 projects: NextPho21 (CSA; Project ID 779664), ACTPHAST 4.0 (IA; Project ID 779472), ACTPHAST 4R (IA; Project ID SEP- 210505406), FLOIM (RIA; Project ID SEP-210498914) and VIZTA (ECSEL-IA, Project ID SEP-826600).
